I've tried a bunch of different ones, mostly free ones, but finally I got what I wanted with a paid one (which thankfully didn't have a stupid subscription plan)

It has all of the features of svgs in it including text to path. The pen tool is a dream to work with (you can constantly retweak paths). Colors, fonts, just everything works.

Layers, it has working layers too.

Best part: I used the help menu options when I got stuck a few times, and bam, right to useful documentation.

Finally, and this just warms my nerd heart: the svg output has well formatted code that is easy to visually parse.
